“Quality without compromise" is McQuade’s Marketplace long-standing motto. McQuade’s is a three-store, independently owned supermarket serving the east coast “shore” towns of Westerly and Jamestown, Rhode Island, and the Mystic, Connecticut area.
A truly local “hometown” supermarket, McQuade’s has earned a reputation for excellence by offering an array of prepared foods, meal kits, unique items, and a focus on fresh, natural, and organic. McQuade’s also has in-store pharmacies and a restaurant in its Mystic store.
After facing increasing issues with his point-of-sale (POS) system, including problems with reporting and archiving capabilities, couponing glitches, and difficulty processing information from the store’s pharmacy, store owner Michael McQuade decided it was time to upgrade.
Left with only two weeks before maintenance would be shut off on his current system, McQuade was faced with the challenge of finding a new POS partner – and during July – the busiest month of the year for McQuade’s. After significant research, conversations, and meetings, McQuade partnered with DUMAC Business Systems. “I want it installed in two weeks,” said McQuade. It was an extremely quick turnaround time. DUMAC approached the tight turn without hesitation.
Within two weeks, DUMAC’s RORC POS system, designed specifically for independent grocery stores like McQuade’s, was up and running with additional configurations required by McQuade’s. Typically, cashier balancing is completed daily, but at McQuade’s cashier it takes place weekly. McQuade’s told DUMAC it was a “must-have.” With in-house, agile developers, DUMAC made it happen - quickly configuring RORC to incorporate this feature.
Customer Point of Sale System Investment Results
“It’s amazing they were able to get it done that quickly, especially during that time of year. Our customers never knew what we were doing,” said Roxanne Ferarro, Store Manager.
“DUMAC was reliable, dependable, and professional, but to pull something like that off – we were thoroughly impressed.” Implementing RORC significantly impacted McQuade’s front-end business operations. In addition, RORC was configured to process McQuade’s unique couponing program efficiently. After replacing the aging system in the two-week timeframe with DUMAC’s RORC software, McQuade’s stores noticed direct and increased efficiencies, seamless integration with the existing system, and additional reporting capabilities.
