DUMAC Will Bring RORCv6 Software To More Grocers & Retailers

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – DUMAC Business Systems, the provider of point of sale (POS) software, hardware and service, has acquired Retailer Owned Research Company (RORC), a POS software company focused on delivering retailer defined retail technology applications. The combination puts the popular RORCv6 software – developed by RORC and custom-built for the grocery business – together with DUMAC's comprehensive technology and service solutions for independent retailers.

"Independents face unique challenges and opportunities, so they want business solutions created with their needs in mind. DUMAC and RORC share a rich history of working with independent grocers," said Phil McCarthy, vice president of DUMAC. "Together, DUMAC and RORC is the best point of sale technology partner to help independents manage, market and grow their businesses."

Founded in 1952, DUMAC has been serving the grocery market for more than 40 years. DUMAC solutions are installed and serviced at more than 1,000 independently-owned supermarkets across the United States.

Created by three cooperative distribution centers in 1985, RORC is a software R&D business with a mission of identifying and developing technologies that will provide the independent retailer with tools that improve service and reduce costs.

Joe Jurich, president and chief executive officer of RORC, will become vice president of retail software solutions at DUMAC. He will continue to oversee development of RORCv6 software and will become DUMAC's chief technology leader for the grocery industry. Jurich and the full RORCv6 team will continue to be based in Dallas-Fort Worth.

"We know that DUMAC will protect and build on the investment that RORC's warehouse customers have made in RORCv6," Jurich said. "DUMAC understands the dealer channel and has a reputation for treating partners and customers the way they want to be treated. With DUMAC's resources and market penetration, we're ready to bring RORCv6 to even more independent retailers across the United States."

RORCv6 software is designed to help independent grocers increase competitiveness, sell more products, and strengthen their bottom lines. It features a robust set of customized, feature-rich capabilities, such as cash management, report managements, e-commerce, promotion management, as well as regulatory and compliance tools.

RORCv6 integrates 3rd party features and functionalities easier than other systems on the market. It offers a tight, seamless, certifiable set of processes that make it easy for RORCv6 to interact with other systems and integrate technology in short timeframes.

"DUMAC and RORC think like independents, so we're more nimble than our competitors and are better able to add functionality tailored to independents," said McCarthy. "And because of our history, we welcome input from the warehouses and users on product and feature direction. With rapid technology change and transition in the market, there is no better time than now to look at DUMAC and RORCv6."

The acquisition closed in late 2015. Terms were not disclosed.
